Bone fracture detection using electrical impedance tomography based on STEMlab Red Pitaya

<span>Bone fractures can result in accidents, osteoporosis, bone cancer, or other conditions. X-Ray is a medical imaging technique often used to detect fractures. However, X-Rays have radiation effects that harm patients, health workers, and the environment. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) system obtain object images based on electrical distribution. In fractures, proximal tissue experiences increased blood flow with local edema due inflammatory reaction which indicates presence of high conductivity diffusion material at fracture location. EIT STEMlab Red Pitaya module be utilized serves as controller, possessing voltage generator, an oscilloscope, 16 input/output pins fulfill most functions. To test EIT-based system’s efficacy, 3D-printed polylactic acid (PLA)-based phantom model was used. This placed cylindrical filled water substitute for soft tissue. The data then are reconstructed using diffuse optical reconstruction software (EIDORS), MATLAB toolbox devoted image from measurement results. results demonstrated could distinguish between normal fractured bone.</span>
